Eleven things people actually ask us — and what we actually say back.

What exactly am I adopting?
A genuine EV battery pack — usually Model Y or Model 3 — safely retired from the road. These packs still have years of high-performance storage left. Instead of heading to recycling, they get a calmer life on the side of your house.
How big are these batteries?
Big. Most packs are around 60–80 kWh — several times the capacity of a typical home wall battery. Enough to run a whole property for days, charge an EV overnight, or keep a small business alive through a blackout.
How do I know it's safe and healthy?
Every battery is individually tested, comes with a full health report, retains its original factory Battery Management System, and is assessed for physical and electrical integrity. You see the exact state of what you're adopting — no guesswork.
Can it be connected to the grid?
Depends on your local distributor. We're approved by Energex (Brisbane and SE Queensland) for grid-tied installations that include exporting, and we supply the documentation for the connection application.
Do you install the system?
We work with a trusted network of licensed solar and battery installers who know our kit. If you don't already have someone, we'll connect you — from inverter upgrade to AS/NZS 5139 compliance.
Will this work with my current solar?
Depends on your setup. If you already have a hybrid-compatible inverter, you're halfway there. If not, we can recommend an inverter upgrade (like a Fronius GEN24) that integrates cleanly.
Can I go fully off-grid?
Absolutely. Many adopters use our batteries to achieve full or near-off-grid living, especially in rural and semi-rural blocks. Going all the way depends on your solar size, backup loads and daily habits.
Can I get a rebate or grant?
Not at the moment — our batteries aren't on the CEC-approved list because they're second-life. Even without a rebate, our systems usually deliver more storage at a lower total cost than new retail batteries.
How much does it cost?
Each battery is priced on condition. Ballpark: $15k for the pack plus $2k for the stand. Current listings run $14k – $22k. See the Batteries page for live stock.
Can I adopt more than one?
Yes. Dual-battery setups are possible and we're refining the best way to integrate multiple packs safely and efficiently. If you've got serious storage needs — multiple EVs, a farm — let's talk.
Why "adopt"?
Because these packs still have a lot to give. You're not just buying hardware — you're rescuing premium kit and giving it a calm, productive retirement on the side of a Queensland house.
