2-minute self-assessment

Is your block ready for a big battery?

Six honest checks to see whether your site is a good fit right now — or whether there's a small bit of prep first.

I have a compatible battery-ready inverter

Some inverters may require a firmware unlock or battery protocol support. Currently supported:

  • Fronius — Primo GEN24 Plus · Symo GEN24 Plus · Hybrid 3.0/4.0/5.0-3-S
  • GoodWe — ET hybrid solar · EH hybrid solar
  • More being added — ask if yours isn't listed

Not sure what you have? Send us a photo of your inverter and we'll check.

I have solar panels (or they're part of the plan)

A battery without solar is just an expensive UPS. The economics of a Better Life Battery assume you're pairing it with a solar system — ideally 6 kW or larger — so that the pack is cycled daily by your own generation rather than imported from the grid.

If you're still in the planning phase, that's fine. Just let us know your intended solar size when you get in touch.

I'm in the Energex network area (grid-tied) or planning off-grid

We're approved by Energex (Brisbane and SE Queensland) for grid-tied installations that include exporting, and supply the documentation required for the connection application. If you're on Ergon Energy's network or planning a fully off-grid site, we can still help — the conversation just goes down a slightly different path.

I have space for the battery

These batteries are big. A clear area of approximately 2.3 m (H) × 1.6 m (W) × 0.4 m (D) is required. Ideally:

  • Near your inverter — saves on cable runs and improves efficiency
  • Undercover — keeps the battery cool and dry

The location is safe & compliant

You and your family's safety is paramount. These batteries are safe, but installation location is critical if anything unexpected goes wrong.

Out of the house — per AS5139, batteries can't be installed in habitable rooms or near exits. We recommend a detached shed or external wall, away from hazardous and flammable substances.

I have (or can find) a licensed installer

Installation must be carried out by a suitably qualified and accredited installer — we don't authorise DIY connection of EV battery packs to domestic wiring. If you don't already have an installer you trust, we can point you toward installers we've worked with in the past.
